FitDog Friday: The End of K9 Kamp?

Today is the last day of K9 Kamp. :(

Time to lower the flag, roll up the sleeping bag, track all the dirt into the car and head home.

Rita and I had a lot of fun with Kamp this month, even if it wasn't all lollypops and rainbows.

Some of it was a bit rough. But hey, nothing gets your heart rate up like being whacked by a strange huge man with a stick! Am I right??

Anyway, I'm proud to report that we DID manage to meet the challenge and get in an extra 20-30 minutes of activity 3-4 times/week. In fact, we did extra almost every day since Kamp started. I thought it was going to be hard, since we were already walking a marathon a week, but it wasn't that bad. (Luckily we had the hubs dragging us out for that extra walk every night.) Even if we (read: I) grumbled, it was nice in the end to go for an evening stroll.

And even though I may have maligned her a bit on the blog yesterday (a bit of exaggeration for silliness' sake), Rita really is a great walking partner. She's not nearly as sniffy as our beagle was, and we go at a good clip. I'm sure a lot of folks get bored with walking their dog, day in, day out, but we have lovely places to explore here, and we try to mix it up.

Although today is the last day of K9 Kamp (for now), it's really the beginning. Or the middle. Anyway, it's definitely not the end, because K9 fitness (and human fitness!) is an on-going endeavor. It's not just a week or a month where we focus on upping the fitness ante and then go back to our slothful ways.
(No offense to the sloth. He (she?) looks like a fine specimen with the proper BMI for a sloth.)
Hopefully you and your pup(s) have made a commitment to keeping your pup (and hopefully you as a side benefit) in shape. K9 Kamp will be back again with another month of fun in October, and in the meantime, You Did What With Your Weiner (one of my fave blog names out there, btw) will be posting "mini-challenges" to help us all Keep Up with K9 Kamp. So check out their blog on the first Friday of every month and the follow-up post on the last Friday.

The Prizes!
Don't forget - you have until Tuesday, June 25 at noon PST to enter to win a prize package worth over $200 so check out all the details at Kol's Notes and Peggy's Pet Place

The Awards!
Not only are there prizes - there are awards! Last year we won two awards and it was a huge thrill. If you've been participating and keeping fit with your pups, you never know - you might win something this year! The awards will be announced Wednesday, June 26.

THANKS!
Thanks again to Kol's Notes and Peggy's Pet Place for sponsoring K9 Kamp and to SlimDoggy for the FitDog Friday blog hop. Rita and I (and the hubs) had fun, and we'll definitely be kamping along in October! (Oh, and special thanks to I Still Want More Puppies for turning us on to the fun time-suck that is giphy.com. She is much more masterful in her use of them than I could ever hope to be.)

  1. You and Rita probably live in one of the best spots ever for walking a lot! Your area is just so gorgeous!

  2. Rita - hope you've gotten back to the beach since that ugly jerk disrupted your walk. You own that place! We're so happy to have you be part of our FitDog Friday Hop each week - we're looking forward to many more. So many of our Hoppers have such fun ideas for keeping their dog fit - trying to try them all will be a challenge for all of us.

  4. I love that you and Rita make such an effort to enjoy the amazing beauty of your home. So many people stop appreciating the loveliness all around them.

I'd feel much more jealous of your beach views if I thought you weren't appreciating them as much as I would. :)

  5. Thanks for mentioning our mini challenges. I feel like we really started a regular fitness routine during Kamp but we were derailed because I got sick. Hopefully we can pick it back up when I get better. It does help that we have two Doxie neighbor friends that always ask us to go walking with them.

  8. It sucks that you had such a bad experience but you rose above it and completed the challenge.

We too thought adding extra time in would be hard but we managed as well and I think we enjoyed it too. It was fun challenging ourselves and I can't wait to see what October brings.
