Wordless Wednesday: Beam Me Up

Rita met her first cat.

This is my sister's cat, Topi. He's very sweet. I think this pic looks like he's going to put a tractor beam on me and beam me up. (Either that or use some sort of death ray to blast Rita to smithereens...)

I'm allergic to cats, but I get over it if I live with them. I was highly allergic to the cat that adopted us when we lived in Bermuda, but within a week, I was picking her up and rubbing my face on her with none of the throat-closing effects I'd experienced when she first showed up. She was such a cuddler, I've often thought maybe we should add a cat to our familial unit. But Rita had a very negative reaction to meeting her first cat! (In fairness, the cat wasn't so hot on her either.)

As you can glean from the picture, we separated them by keeping Topi upstairs and Rita down. It took Rita hours to even realize Topi was there, but when she did, she alerted us: OMD, DID YOU GUYS KNOW THERE'S A FREAKING CAT IN HERE!? Topi responded by shooting more death-ray looks at Rita.

I guess we won't be getting a cat anytime soon. Besides, what Rita really wants is a puppy. (And to learn how to open the fridge.)

Happy Slightly-Less-Wordy Wednesday!

  1. Topi is a very brave kitty to be on that railing with the cone on his head. Purrs and hugs, the kitties at www.thecatonmyhead.com, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Josette.

    1. He's had to wear a cone for a while now - he got a booboo on the top of his head and he would NOT stop scratching it and reopening it. He just finally got freed from the cone the other day. Hooray for no more cone!

  4. Well, it sounds like there might be a new puppy in the family soon. Rita might not have to wait too ;-)

  5. Teach Rita to get beer from the fridge. That would totally rock.

Our dogs and cat do NOT get along well. At all. Yet, they all live in the same house without killing each other. The cat, Bosco, lives upstairs. Occasionally he wanders down to grace us with his presence and tease the dogs. It's what cats do.

    1. That would rock. But I'm pretty sure she'd help herself to the cheese drawer before getting us our beers.

That's good to know that dogs and cats can live together and not kill each other!
