Wordless Wednesday: Does Your Dog Have a Spot?

I don't mean a spot of color, or a favorite spot to lounge in. I mean a spot that when you itch it, you can count on their leg to start involuntarily scracthing along in time with your hand. That kinda spot.

Rita doesn't have one! And, believe me, we've looked! She loves to have her tummy rubbed, and will often roll over and lift her back leg in hopeful anticipation of a good rubbing, but no amount of searchin' and scritchin' will make that back leg go.

It's like my life's mission now. To find her "spot." For our last 2 pups it was right along the edge of the rib cage, but this girl is holding out on me.

I'll find it! Oh, yes I will!
Have you found your dog's spot?

And Don't Forget...
There's still time to vote for Rita in the Dogs of Blogville calendar contest. Voting ends Sunday and is 1 vote per IP address per 24 hours. So vote on your 'pooter, tablet, smart phone, whatever! It's easy-peasy to vote. Just visit this link, scroll down past the info/photos, select Rita's name from the buttons and hit "VOTE". You can even see how she's doing right away. Thank you!

Happy Slightly-less-wordy Wednesday!

  1. Tynan had several spots and they changed in "power" as he aged. Wilhelm's spots have migrated a bit too. Brychwyn actually laughs when I tickle him but I haven't found Huxley's spot yet... he is so big!

  2. I know exactly what kind of spot you were talking about when I read this title! Yes - Shiner has one. It seems to move around. She likes to be scratched on her booty, and on her sides and sometimes on her neck under chin. Maybe it's a good sign Rita has no "spot".

  7. I love it when I find "the spot". Makes me laugh when their foot wiggles. It appears not one of my 3 dogs has one either! Good luck finding Rita's!

  10. At 13, Indy has finally gotten a spot. Just within the last few weeks, she's started scratching when I rub a spot on her belly. That never happened before. So there's hope for Rita yet!

  12. We call that "Starting your Harley" when the dog kicks his foot in response to a scritching.

  13. I don't currently have a dog, and cats rarely have spots, but I love finding the spots on my horses.

  14. That's funny! Wrigs only occasionally has a spot itchy enough to get a hind leg moving. Thankfully, itchiness is one problem he's never had.

  15. Y'know, I don't think we've found our dogs' spots. Not that we've looked, but it seemed to come naturally with the last dog. Huh.

  16. Every dog I've ever been around had a spot--except my Poodles. I don't think Poodles allow themselves the indignity of reacting to a spot.

  17. I voted!! LOVE the picture.
Every spot is Kelly and Ike's spot!

  18. BOL Too cute! In 3 years, I haven't found a spot on my Titan that will make that leg go crazy in kicking! ;)

  19. I actually read something recently that said that if a dog does that involuntary leg movement when you are rubbing them, that you are actually irritating their nerves, and that's why it happens. So it could be a good thing if Rita doesn't have a spot! Ours do it from time to time but I've never really found a particular spot that always does it. The beagles actually prefer to have their ears or their chests rubbed anyway.

  20. Maybe it's like some people aren't ticklish...maybe Rita just doesn't have one! Hope she makes it on the calendar!

  22. Keep looking, I'm sure you'll find that elusive spot. Beamer loves to be scratched along the ribcage and will occasionally twitch.

  23. Oh yes, there's a spot that makes my back leg wave about!

  24. LittleBear had a couple spots, but we haven't been able to find a spot on Austin and Li'l Girl. Not sure if they don't have one, or we just haven't found it yet.
Listen, we all know how clever Rita is. She's just pretending not to have a spot so you'll keep searching for it. ;)
